Brake back bleeding tool and process
Back bleed your brakes with a set-up that that works pretty well. Use a small clear plastic Poweraide bottle and drill 2 holes into the cap a little smaller than the OD of the clear plastic hose used so that when pressed through the holes it holds tight. The line that goes to the bleeder consist of a piece of this hose about 2 inches long with a small shutoff valve in line then more hose, maybe 4-5 feet that goes to the bottle and is inserted just barely into a hole in the cap. This will be the feed line the DOT 5 goes through and the shut off is nearer the bleeder (can use a real cheap aquarium line shut off for this). The other hole is for another piece of line as long as you like that is inserted and pushed all the way up into the bottle. This line is for you to add pressure to force the fluid into the brake. Make sure the end of the line placed into the bottle is cut diagonally so as to not close itself against the bottom of the bottle. Process goes like this:
1 Remove master cylinder cover.
2 Remove most fluid from master cylinder. 3 Fill bottle with adequate supply of fluid and fashion a hanger to hold it upside down near and above the bike. 4 Open valve to fill line to end then slip line onto bleeder. 5 Open bleeder. You can add pressure into the other line. Compressed air will be too much too fast, try by mouth, can also leave it alone and let gravity do it's thing while you have a beer. This is probably best as it is more controlled and allows the fluid to seep in and air to escape. Watch the fluid in the master and remove as it fills. In short order you will get a bit of air and it will start filling with fresh fluid.
6 Close bleeder, close valve and your done. |
